More About Abruzzo
Abruzzo is a beautiful unspoilt region of Italy to the east of Rome nestled between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea.
Abruzzo is easily accessible from the UK. Pescara has an international airport with regular flights from Stansted with Ryanair. You can also fly into either Rome (with BA, Eazyjet and many other carriers) or Ancona (Ryanair) and make the easy drive from there.
Abruzzo has a very long coast line of pine-fringed, clean, sandy beaches that stretch for more than 15 miles. The shallow, warm waters of the Adriatic are ideal for safe family bathing.
Nearby Pescara is a modern town with a full range of facilities including an outstanding international airport and a large tourist marina, considered to be one of the best in Italy.
National parks cover one-third of the territory of Abruzzo, so there is an abundance of walks and trails of various lengths and levels of difficulty. You can enjoy majestic mountain scenery with a wide variety of flora and fauna, and, if you are lucky, you may spot a wild bear, wolf or chamois.
The Abruzzo region boasts the highest summits of the Apennines, so it is no surprise that the winter resorts of the Gran Sasso and Maiella attract thousands of enthusiasts every year, and not just to ski. For the more enterprising ski-touring and snowboarding are available; also on offer is snowrafting, tobogganing and dog-sledding, as well as cross-country skiing on the vast plateaux of the Campo Imperatore, Rocche, Cinque Miglia, Voltigno and the Piani di Pezza.
Abruzzo has an abundance of historic medieval hilltop towns and villages. Ten of the villages have been named as being amongst 'Italy's Most Beautiful Villages' ('I borghi piu belli d'Italia') - more than in Tuscany!
Italy is renowned for its food and wine, and Abruzzo has many regional specialities, including Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - an award-winning red wine, pecorino - cheese from ewe's milk, delicious honey, saffron and truffles, as well as 'arrosticini' - barbecued skewered mutton, and, of course, its very own pasta.
Property in Abruzzo
All these factors have made Abruzzo a ‘property hotspot’ (according to a recent Channel 4 programme in April 2007 – ‘Selling Houses Abroad’).
There is a wide range of property available for sale in Abruzzo from traditional stone cottages and farmhouses, many of which need restoration, to houses or even entire farms. There are also modern houses and apartments, and, if you have an idea for a ‘grand design’, you could buy a building plot instead.
With its stunning scenery of mountains and sea, it is easy to find a property in a beautiful location in Abruzzo. Please have a look at the properties using the ‘Search’ facility above. You can select properties by type, number of bedrooms, or by price. If you would like to see all the properties listed in price order, just press ‘search’.
